Twickenham Alive Blue Mile
Saturday 9th June 2012

Raising vital funds to support WWF’s work protecting our rivers and seas

World Oceans Day on 8th June will be the start of events across the UK when people will be raising funds to support the world’s oceans.  This year the Twickenham Alive Blue Mile on 9th June will support the work of the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) to protect rivers, seas and oceans.

In the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames the Twickenham Alive Blue Mile, an official Blue Mile event, will have a programme of river activities and a sponsored Walk for Water.

The title sponsor race, the Ecover Blue Mile, will follow a course along Twickenham Riverside, in front of Eel Pie Island and finish at Eel Pie Bridge.  This will follow a series of Kayak and Stand Up Paddle Board sprint events and the One Mile Walk for Water along a beautiful and engaging circular route from Eel Pie Bridge, down river to Orleans Gardens (Hammerton Ferry) and back again.

Entry to the Twickenham Alive Blue Mile, in association with Naish UK and Active 360, includes all equipment – Kayak or Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) board, paddle and buoyancy aids.  Participants can enter individual events or can sign up for a package that will include the Blue Mile paddle and two sprint races.

Participants are required to pre-register before the event online at www.thebluemile.org.
